i’ve heard rumours that for the hsc you’re expected to write with a black pen, so that it’s easier for the markers to read your scanned writing. Would it be just as acceptable to use a thick and inky blue pen?
there’s a specific brand that i’ve been using for since year 11 and i swear it has magical powers that let me squeeze out an extra writing booklet.

like does it really matter, and could you get penalised for not using a black pen?

thanks in advance :)

Blue is not allowed. Not sure about penalties but I think it has something to do with the scanning. I'm sure that they make the same pen in black...

Tbh it might be best to look for a favourite black pen. It's better to use a pen you're familiar with, rather than the convenor giving you some random black kilometrico because theyve spotted you writing in blue.

It is a requirement that you write using black pen for scanning purposes. This is one of the instructions highlighted in the "General Instructions" section of the cover page of every HSC exam paper.

Just like you may/mot not use calculators depending on the subject, you may not write using anything but a black pen.

You can use red pen or even pencil if you want, just runs the risk of it not being dark enough/visible when they scan it.

Yeah, you're meant to use a black pen for the purposes of scanning. I've heard gel pens are the best due to how light it is in your hand as well as how well the actual ink and writing flows on the paper but it comes with a lot of smudging (at least from the ones I've used). Though your average ballpoint/biro pen works just as well, it's a matter of preference.

Just make sure to go over with black pen, for example, in Maths or the sciences (Chem, Phys, Bio) if you have to draw a graph

Ballpoint for essay-writing subjects. Watch Academic Hacker's vids where he covered it one time.
