Well how an individual perceives themselves and those around them is very important. Many factors shape belonging, that is why it is a very individual pursuit.

Most texts I'd argue that an individual must have a strong sense of self-awareness before being able to meaningfully engage with others, and form significant relationships.

I think you should make a mind-map on the various aspects of belonging, and find ways of linking it to the idea of 'self-awareness'.

There are many ways that you could argue this statement - you could agree, disagree, or do both.

Self awareness can be linked to individualism and conformity, for example.

E.g. We could say that true sense of belonging is being consistently aware of one's own values, rather than adhering to societal norms where we may lose ourselves. This could be argued the other way also.

Think about your core and related texts, and how it explores the different modes of belonging - within relationships, peers, family (etc.) and whether it is personal, communal, societal etc, which will allow you to develop an appropriate thesis.

It would be a good idea to have a look at your rubric for belonging.
