to find the distance between 2 points on the earth surface, you need the latitude. So lets get 2 examples of latitude - 37degrees N and 21 degrees S. Firstly, you got to add 37 and 21, because they are on opposite sides of the equator. You get 58 DEGREES. 1 degree = 60miles. Therefore you do 58 x 60. Thats it, you get the distance between the 2 points in Nautical miles. Of course, there is another way to do it because caculating using the curmunfrence rule, but i cant be bothered explaining it, unless you really want me to.
For time zones, you to refer to longitudes. Again, find 2 different longitudes on the earths surface. Lets say 30 degree E and 90 degree E. Because they are both on the same side, YOU HAVE TO SUBTRACT. So 90-30 = 60. 1 Miles = 4minutes, so you do 60 x 4. Thats 240 minutes. 240/60 = 4 hours. There you go, time difference.
