They are thingies you need to do stuff with later on.

EDIT: Uh, I just realised you may need a slight bit of clarification. Standards packages are available on the Board site. I believe they are example responses to exam questions.

do you know how I could get my hands on it?

Someone suggested to look at standard package, as I wanted to know the length of essays expected in the Geography HSC.

is it something i can download? or it like a package they give you at school?

a standard package are copies of acutal hsc answers from students from a different hsc year. it provides one with band 1/2 answers, 3/4 answers and 5/6 answers. the level of band 5 and 6 answers may sometimes be similar etc. it is a good outline of how one should apprach the question and how to answer it.

it comes out every year for every single subject. it is a genuine copy, since it is issued by the board of studies.

its best if you go to a book shop and purcahse it. best places to look are dymocks. if you want to be guaranteed a copy, go to the dymocks in the city. i think the one closest to the state library should be guarantee enough.

"guaranteed a copy"???

does that mean it's heaps popular or something? and everyone buys one except tells nobody else?

Standards Packages, as Slide Rule said, are only published for the 2001 and 2002 HSCs. Now you can get a similar book from BOS. I can't remember exactly what it's called..."Exam Answers" or something similar. Your school library most likely has a copy of both the Exam Answers and the Standards Packages for each subject.

that is incorrect. cheap schools like mine can't afford these standard packages. that is of course unless the teacher gets one for herself, which some of mine do.

I believe that things called "exemplar responses" are different to the standards packages, and do come out each year. Don't quote me, though.

Lol...well at least if your teacher has a personal copy, he/she will most likely photocopy sections of it for you (that's if they aren't tight like your school is :))

I know that in the new "Exam Answers" books, they have examples of responses in the High, Mid and Low mark ranges - not sure about exemplar though.
