I've just recently joined the gym and probs will start with this program (friends recommended it) What are your opinions on it?

Starting Strength is a great program for building a foundation for strength. You can also look up Rippletoe's videos online for form check and things of that nature to help improve your lifts. Of course, you shouldn't stay on SS forever. Once you get comfortable with your lifts, you can find or create your own split routine. I recommend it~

Depends on your goals (I'm assuming put on muscle). I'd recommend it as a foundation, but once you've established a base level of strength I'd progress to a more bodybuilding orientated program e.g. split routine, 8-10 reps per set, slow the tempo of your reps down.

For increasing strength gym is a good place. If you have joined a gym then it is good for you. You can do every kind of exercise there to increase strength. Running and jogging are good exercises for increasing strength.
