I have asked this before but just confirming...

The state ranks are based on both the assessment and exam mark? Or just exam...because I know someone from my school who didn't come first (internal) but came 3rd (state) overall...strange.

HSC Mark to 1d.p.

HSC Mark is the average of the assessment and exam marks.

Ties in extension courses are broken by looking at the students other marks in the subject area.

For VET courses the only mark BOS gets is the raw mark from the HSC exam. It was 100% exam weighting on the exam.

So say there is a tie in Japanese Extension...and Student A beats Student B in Continuers - so A would be ranked higher? Same with other extensions, yes?
