String theory vs Standard Model (1 Viewer)

who here knows alot about string theory?

Which do you reckon is right, string theory or the standard model

truly beyong my forte... I don't quite understand the string theory, but apparently, there's quite alot of evidence suggesting standard model is a nice fit... i think they found evidence for all energy carriers except for gravitron...

The standard model has its problems, but thus far at least its predictive and explanatory power has FAR outweighed that of string theory- so on that basis alone I would go with the SM.

However, I tend to have a gripe against anything that can't be readily proven- which suggests that I would have an inherent gripe against string theory.

On the surface it seems rather elegant and novel, but something about necessitating the existence of 12 (or 13? or more?) unobservable dimensions rings somewhat inelegant to my ear.

EDIT: That's not to say that its wrong purely on the basis that "I don't like it", just meant that as an aside.

I don't think there is any way that string theory can be right. It is such an incredibly complex theory which has absolutely no evidence, and some of the assumptions String Theory - and particularly M-Theory makes are bordering into some kind of Science Fiction/Philosophy amalgam.

I'm still for Einstein's relativity
