hey ya'll!

Sry for posting this so close to the hscs  but for those who have done the hsc business course/are currently in year 12, how did you personally study for Business Studies/any of the other humanities subjects? Do you guys have any tips for studying/(self)learning the content? Active recall/revision? I want to do super well in bs but compared to my other subjects, I dont really know how to rlly approach business...

Being brutally honest, in class I feel like my teacher is going wayyyyy too fast and i feel like nothing is rlly absorbing in my brain. Ik its probably bc im so focused on copying down the notes on the slides taht i forget to even stop to consolidate them, but other than rewriting my notes/attempting to summarize them i still feel nothing is sticking to me :confused:. Idk if this pace is normal for business studies in y12, but based off my one lesson ive had in class, we'd alr covered the first two dot points for operations straight off the bat and I geniunely alr feel overloaded with content...?!?! Im just desperate to know how did you guys personally selfstudy for business studies/got ahead yourself. For y11 I just got someones rlly good notes off this website and pretty much studied off them and I was able to do rlly good :cold:, but im pretty sure thats not feasible for y12 bc it requires a much deeper understanding.

any tips would be greatly appreciated

Wow I’m doing marketing rn. But I usually make notes from the textbook/ slides my teacher gives. Maybe instead of rushing to take down everything, focus on listening in class and then at home take ur notes. Maybe try different methods such as flashcards, acronyms, mind maps, etc to help u remember stuff

hey i recommend u memorise ur syllabus its so central

also dont panic, youve only had one week of year 12 so u might feel the pressure and think ur not grasping enough
u should make ur own notes this year because the process of it helps you so much. making my own notes for business throughout the year helped me understand the content in my own words. for active recall u can use flashcards like anki to remember certain definitions or syllabus acronyms.

its normal to feel overwhelmed when starting a big journey like this, trust me ur not behind!

omg that is so true I’ve completely forgotten about needing to memorise the syllabus alr… im 100% gonna start doing that tysm 😭😭:inlove:

can I also ask how did you take notes? Ik for business there is just so much theory so I honestly type everything down to save time but nothing rlly sticks 😕 compared to when I write my notes. I know it’s good to make concise notes for note taking, but in class I usually feel liek everything is essential what ends up happening is I just end up copying down everything...

If you don’t mind me asking, do you have a way you go about structuring your notes? im also aware that for y12 we have to have a case study ready (in which I’m not rlly sure what it is for Specifically in the hsc) so if I were to take case study notes as well would you have any tips for that?

thank you sm and sry if this is rlly long :cold:

maybe in class type stuff up and then after that summarise main dot points by writing it down so that u remember it. Also I like using the blurting method where I read over my notes and try memorising it and then after that I write down everything I remember and then I keep on repeating the process until I remember everything

all good!!

i started note taking around the end of year holidays, so for u it’d be like end of this term. we had a textbook that already had case studies in them so i would put them in my notes, but you can easily find case studies from anywhere on the internet!

we done operations in term 1 so I finished my operation notes during the holidays. then when we would do our other topics, i would update my notes at the end of each week to ensure I was up to date

in terms of feeling like copying everything down, that’s so real😭 if u look at my operations notes compared to all the other three functions, my operations notes r the heaviest due to my entering year 12 for the first time paranoia

for case studies, I’d put them under each dotpoint bc it makes it easier to identify rather than putting all ur case studies in one document. for example, for the technology influence in operations, i would put the qantas case study for technology under my information.

in terms of figuring out what u need in ur notes, the syllabus outright tells you! e.g: the technology dotpoint for STRATEGIES specifies leading edge and established.
the notes i did for these dotpoints was define what each one was and give an adv and disadvantage for both leading edge and established

this is an example of what my notes look likeIMG_9673.jpeg
