I've been through two 20GB iPods - They've had to be replaced due to firmware problems.

I've had to restore the software throughout the iPod's 4 times.

Maybe i've just been unlucky. Does yours screw up?

my iPod has only frozen on me once. I also have a 20Gb iPod.
but other than that, it's all good!

on another iPod topic... who here has any iPod accessories?
I just bought an iTalk, and i must say, it's pretty useful. I just recorded my first lecture today, and even though I was sitting half-way back in the lecture hall, it comes out pretty clear. The quality is reasonable as the size comes to about ~1Mb per minute.

Why would the ipods need to be replaced due to mere firmware problems?

My current ipod has never frozen (40gb ipod photo)
My old one though (20gb 3G) stopped working for 4 days while i was in China (And i was using it as aHDD to dump photos on.....

Hmmm im thinking of getting iTalk.....So you think its a good buy?

can't you soft reset it when it freezes?

like hold the middle button and the wheel down for a few seconds.

I don't even have an ipod... but i hate how the headphones are white... yeccch. Other than that, I don't really have a problem with ipods. I suppose you could just plug in some other headphones anyway...

When it's frozen, nothing works :p

and yes, iTalk is pretty useful!
I got mine off eBay for $50

Mine would not even consider booting after i updated it. It just kept flashing the apple logo, and any attempts to reset or otherwise came up trumps and the computer or wall socket would not read the ipod.

That's why.

I don't know :S That's the reason Apple Centre gave me.

Same. It's thinking too hard. I gotta take my latest in cause of this. Doesn't even turn on or respond to a charger/computer. I never dropped mine either :(

Yeah, the cord of mine always gets caught on the vicious metal teeth of my jackets. You can't even buy replacements!! You can only buy the in-ear ones, stupid Apple.

For anyone who has it freeze, you can reset it. If it's on lock, you unlock it, lock it, unlock again, then use the reset combination.

And yes, I agree, Apple have some quality control issues, but otherwise their product is pretty damn good.
