this is a super embarrassing post to be making rn as my year 11 subject selections are due in 2 days, but im really stuck
ive never known what i wanted to be or what i wanted to do in uni. granted, ive tried researching courses and a career i find interesting but its always ended in a plateu. right now, ive picked the subjects i like, but im getting stressed out about potential prerequisites for whatever uni course i end up picking.
----i dont have anyone to speak to our reach out to during my school before the selection process is finalised.

-biology
-modern history
-SOR I
-math standard
-english standard
-business studies
-economics
(probably gonna change my mind 4 this)

any advice would be so helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i had an evening to look around and talk to teachers from certain courses, but it was too crowded for me to get a word in. i did manage to talk to an english teacher about the advanced pathway, but she embarrassed me huge and i left to stop myself from crying. i soso much regret doing that though

Literally do whatever you want half the subjects you do don't have to be related to what you want in the future. Unless you have some speculations than go with maths adv but I slayed with all humanity subjects and that made my hsc more enjoyable

Hi there!

Do you know what you're leaning towards in terms of uni? I'd recommend looking at prerequisite courses - your courses look fine, but depending on what you want to do then math advanced and chemistry might be useful. (Of course, if you know you don't want to do anything medical or engineering related, then ignore this. Advanced maths does help for commerce related courses though.) Otherwise, your subjects look great!

If you're looking for a replacement for economics, chemistry may enable more uni course options (but is a lot of work), otherwise pick whatever! Economics is the sort of thing you absolutely can learn in university, so don't stress about that.

Similarly, depending on your ATAR goal, english advanced might be worth considering. It is of a surprisingly similar difficulty to standard, and the band 6 achievement of standard is way lower than advanced, so if you're on the fence then advanced might be worth a shot (if you know your school would let you drop later). I'm saying this not knowing you as a student so feel free to disregard me, but in general these are things to potentially consider!

Do you have any more specific questions?

Hope this helps!

Hi!
I do/did a lot of the subjects you are thinking of.
I love sor1 I really recommend it, it's super interesting and really really manageable as the content is all so clear in the syllabus and you can do well easily. I also love modern, though there is a lot of content but if you are interested it's super fun! I personally also like economics and feel like it has so much relevance and helps you understand things. I did bio in year 11 but dropped in year 12 as I wanted to pick up some other extension classes and personally it was a bit of an outlier in my subjects but it is really cool.
My biggest tips would just be, firstly consider doing advanced english, I completely get if you don't want to that's so fine but don't let a teacher discourage you. Personally from talking to teachers and friends who have done standard they've found there hasn't been a huge difference between the two. When I went into year 11 I honestly did things on a level above what I think I could do and I really recommend that because it's so easy to drop but you never know what you might miss out on if you don;t give it a chance. Don't worry too much abt prereqs, most of them are gone. Biggest thing though is, and i know everyone says this, but look at the syllabus and see what interests you. Whatever you think looks cool give it a go and don't base your decision on anything else, I really liked a lot of my subjects and when year 12 gets stressful and you're super unmotivated, having some interest in the content goes a long way!
