i was wondering if anyone could help me with the following question....thanks heaps....

*find the area enclosed betwen the curve y= x squared and the line
y= -6x + 16

First you find the intersections using simultaneous equations and you should end up with

x=2, -8 These will be the boundaries

∫ (-6x+16-x2) dx
-8

[ -3x2+16x-x3/3 ]2-8
= 52/3 +448/3
= 166 2/3

Since you're finding the enclosed area, don't forget to include units2.

Umm... just a question for pluvia or riviet cos u both used it:

how do u write X (squared).

do u need a special program for the powers cos i cant seem to find it on microsoft word

You type {sup}your text here{/sup} but use square brackets, ie these [ ]

but... do u know how to use it for microsoft word incase i want to type up my maths notes?

You can copy and paste it from a bos post or any site that has the superscript or go to Insert>Symbol in MS word and search for the superscipt in the list.
