Going by search results within the business and commerce section, I'm sensing not many people study or have any interest in the following industries. I for one started a degree at macquarie but had to transfer out of the Big 4 to study logisitics. Despite only three universities within somewhat close proximity of Sydney offering as undergraduate (UWS, Griffith and UOW) surely there are young locals who are involved in the industry?

Give us a heads up on what degree you are doing and work experience you have and more importantly what you like or dislike about the course/major?

I'm doing Bachelor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences - coursework includes discrete structures, operations research, c and java programming and econometrics - logistics and stuff does interest me so hopefully my degree will help to some extent (even if I'm not doing more applied mathematics.)

Awesome set... You're in another league.

Where do you see yourself post-graduation?

Supply Chain and Logistics is big business !!! You get to travel the world and be central the any business.

I have worked with our supply chain and logistics people in my company and they are really brainy people. Our core business is retail and so you can imagine, logistics is everything.

HAHAHA, I wouldn't call us all the brainy type. But yes we do have alot at stake. Travelling is the best part - all my managers have transferred into different countries at the expense of the company. Anyone looking into this industry should really see it as one of lives perks to say the least.

I was actually employed with a logistics company in a trainee program prior to to doing an undergraduate program. So I would also recommend students undertake some sort of part time work to see hands on how things operate in a pratical sense. Invaluable pratical knowledge of the industry, even at a micro level, will really give you motivation to excel and see if the industry is really for you.

Companies such as Toll logistics have temporary job vacancies ever so often - ranging from 2-12 months. This would suit us uni students during the summer break as there are no strings attached to commit the hours during session.

MSc/PhD Financial Econometrics, Quant Finance, Computational Finance or Operations Research

I'm quite interested in the managemental science part of operations research (i.e. using networks to find out how to build a house the quickest) - I think if I get a position in Venture Capital Consultancy/Analysis hopefully I'll be able to get an executive position.

Keep having this worry that I won't make $200k+ a year which is quite stupid considering money really doesn't mean much to me.
