what is the point of joining?

the idea of it is to promote a community based network, however it is up to you, what you want to share and what you dont. For example i know of ppl in the shire who have a wan and ppl who join have access to 1-3mbps Internet access, about 1tb of files...it really depends on what the ppl on the network u want to join are sharing.
Please state your location !!!! Im looking for ppl to network with!!!

i'm in burwood.....i have wifi but too lazy to setup...don't like it cause it's slow for me

i still use cable
just networked my entire house over the last christmas holidays with cat5 cable! took me 2 whole days in the roof at like 35 degree plus temperatures!
took like 250metres to network 5 bedrooms + 1 study area...
hmm family of 5 and we have 5 computers + 1 laptop lol
everyone happy no fighting over the computer....including my parents!

No as usually you will have to rely on an external antenna. That only detects signals from up to 200 feet away. My friends have reached 36km on one link.

but most of tthe time if your in a hotspot location....well, maybe not in sydney coz theres like only a dozen...compared to adeliade city that has nearly a hundred...
you wouldnt know where / what you are physically hooked up to?
but chances are its maccas, starbucks, or sum pub
