In the first topic of the economics syllabus, it has a dot point on:

EU, NAFTA, APEC, ASEAN, CERTA

I was wondering how much and what kind of information on each we need to know at the moment. Currently I'm using the Leading Edge textbook and I'm having trouble picking out the most relevant points. Thanks

Do we need to know about the establishment of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)?

Well when i was studying over this, i found that there wasn't really much to know except it had alot of statistics and dates and stuff.

Guess you could put what each of them stand for, whos in it, some important stuff?

Figure the stats could be good for extended responses and stuff if you could apply them.

before the syllabus dotpoints, there's a section, i think "key issues" or "students learn to..."
its important to read this as essay questions often come from there

having said that, i think i remember that for the int'l orgs section - it was a bit "hmm" as to what was actually required in terms of learning, but essentially, make sure you can write an essay on the "role of int'l orgs" in the global economy. and mostly you'll find it links back to the liberalisation of trade - and then link it back to the benefits of free trade etc.

so look at what each organisation does - also have some examples handy of things it's actually done not just vague statments. eg with WTO you'd mention the doha round, with EU you'd mention it's agricultural policies - so have specific examples ready to back up your argument.
hope that made some sense.

you learn what they stand for, the general idea of what countries are in them, and one of 2 things that they do eg

EU = CAP,CET, how currency works
CERTA= FTA between aus and NZ
NAFTA= us get mexico cheap labour, mexico get more export markets. established to combat eu etc

just learn a few things on each to throw in on an essay if needed.

though to be honest, there not that important. i got 95 in eco so yeah
