The university sets the course (more the lecturer that runs it), so not really. Most of the time the most detailed it gets is the course outline you get at the start of the course.

Even knowing what things *might* be worth before you hand them in could be nice too.

Yes, at the start of the session they give a course outline (either online or in paper) at the first lecture. In very last lectures most lecturers would do a run through of the exam format, topics that are tested, and so on.

The reality is though, that you aren't really spoonfed like in the HSC anymore.

I found in my degree there are always course outlines and listings on parts of relevant textbooks.

I find that what they cover in the lectures is usually a good indication of the content in the course, well if you don't go.....
