i think this was asked in the North syd girls trial 2003

name and briefly describe a synthetic condensation polymer??

rayon is the first thing that comes to my mind, but then again it is made from modified cellulose/glucose, which makes it a naturally occuring one, am i right??

Nylon came up to my mind because it was in conquering chem. However i couldn't find too much info on it.

Is this in the syllabus? The teacher prolly encourages the students to "use teksbuks informesion" like nerds...

condensation polymers are in sylabus but not in detail

you need to know their definition and describe them.

good to remember a few examples

Synthetic:
nylon

Natural:
Cellulose

nylon is definitely one.. first synthetic polymer made by man... we made it in class the other day.. ^^ dayum funni.

hmm.. brief description.. nylon is a synthetic, thermoplastic material.. strong, elastic, abrasion and chemical-resistant... variety of types, all polyamides, (made from diamines and carboxylic acids). most generally useful is nylon 66 made from hexamethylene amine and adipic acid.

if u want anymore go find it online.. use a search engine or something. ciaoz~

just a note : Chem context puts the nylon/rayon in the biopolymer section.

i also noticed that since nylon is made from modified cellulose/glucose, it would therfore be biodegradable which would make it a biopolymer right??

So what about PHB(beta-HydroxyButanoate)???
Its a condensation polymer .PP made it using micro Organism ,does it counted as synthesis???;)

I reckon that one is too complex to remember, just use cellulose
