Talking to strangers on discord (1 Viewer)

Chat i caught my 10 yr old brother today on a call w a stranger from belarus who claims to be 13 yrs old n (with his consent obv) i went through his messages n realised he talks to a lot of 15 yr old boys from random countries

some might say ‘so what it aint that bad?’ But i just dont feel comfortable w my 10 yr old brother doing so
i talked to my dad abt this (not my mum - she’ll freak out, maybe my dad can tell her) n he asked if there is a way to control who my brother can talk to, is there?

i dont want to block the whole app bc he talks w his actual school friends there but random strangers thats a big no

plz any help?

he was literally standing next to me as i went through his messages n he was there when i told my dad

ik how annoying it is when you get snitched on (i have an older sister) but i would never do that to my brother

as an elder sister, i kind of get why you're concerned because people on discord can be weird but if you know you brother won't click on weird links/attachements, talk about innappropriate content, send identifiable or sensitive info or would block/report/come talk to you about bullying and other dangerous situations i think discord is a pretty safe platform overall and so far him chatting/going on vc with random guys is not that dangerous

i think as a 10 year old kid (who should not have discord bc discord is for kids 13+) who is talking to stangers who say they are older than them and going on call as well it is a bit weird and you guys should enforce rules on chatting with strangers until he is a bit older

yh ik but honestly my parents should be the ones to prevent him from getting social media its not my responsibility i just think its my responsibility to make sure he is safe on them yk?

does he have his own room/privacy

my brother is 13 and vc's with his school friends to play roblox but he can only play games and vc in the living room + no headphones where my entire family can monitor the conversations. even if he vc's with strangers it wouldn't matter bcz if smth sounded sus my family would figure it out. I don't think he's got anything to hide we've been through his dms before and it's just roblox talk

maybe you'd feel less worried if he was vc'ing around the family
