isn't it interesting that the nsw teachers federation continues to advertise the twisted truth. the only reason they do this is because as the enrollments decrease in the public sector so does the teachers and this means that the NSW teachers federation is also loosing membership and hence loosing money. as can be see in the graph attached taken from http://www.isca.edu.au/ it can be seen that although public students make up almost 70% of total enrolments (which is decreasing) gets 30% of the funding, well this is how the NSW teachers association puts it, the thing that they fail to show is the % of funding from the federal government, state government and parents, in 2004-05 public schools received 8% of funding from the federal government, 88% from the state governement and 4% from parents, on average it costs $10,715 to educate 1 student in a public school. in the private sector, the federal governemt does contribute more to private schools then public schools, about 32% of the total funding comes from the federal government but the state government contributes just over 1/8 (12%) of what it does to public schools and parents pick up the shortfall and contribute 56%, costing the government $1,570 to $6,970 to fund a student in a private school so therefore it is cheaper for the govenment to fund private school education, in contrast to what the NSW teachers federation advertises that state schools only receive 30% of funding.

so next time people want to go around making uninformed assumptions and comments look through the superficiality of the NSW teachers federation and see the truth in the situation.

(sorry if the graph did not attach it would not allow me to copy and paste but it can be found on the above link where it is Issue 1, 2007 newsletter.)
