formal, colloquial and slang are the language styles used..

in a newspaper article formal would most generally be used.
in a feature article you may be getting into colloquial, depending on the article.

figurative language is also used in newspaper articles ( stating facts and figures )

schapelle corby shit would probly have emotive language and imagery also.
