apparently for students who have started their degree this year (2005) and SIBT students, if you fail any of these 2nd year accounting subjects twice, you will be asked to leave the university, regardless of what degree you are doing!

how slack is that, luckily i have been here for over a year but that must really suck for some people who have just started. I suggest studying pretty hard for these subjects now, because a lot of people do fail them more than once.

I really doubt that.

If that's true, that's very harsh.

I don't do ACCG. :D

It's not. They couldn't throw you out for any other reason than the rules set out in the handbook, the most likely of which (so it was teh only one I noticed) was doing your degree in a far too long time.

This will make the Accounting degree at Macquarie much more prestigous, (consider the distribution of grades and non-English speaking lecturers, as well.)

Conspiracy theory #3: people start accounting, fail core units twice, transfer... more tuition fees in the long run so no need to hike up HECs prices.

But that rule will then apply to even Arts students who are doing accounting subjects. If, as the poster said, they failed twice, they'd be barred from all degrees. Doesn't sound right, I'm affraid.

- lecturers don't speak (much) English
- students don't speak (much) English
- the material is (very) dry and boring
- few high grades (but many low grades)

Is tops2 tops?

yeah.

but you have to be careful if you are transferring. as far as i know, if you transfer into a different course (applied finance and accounting to just accounting), you will fall into that category.

just try really hard not to fail? it should be a good enough incentive.

accg253 u definetly need the textbook, the lecture notes are crap! and for tute questions

accg201 u probably dont need the textbook as much because they provide lecture eg's on the practical stuff, which i thought was similar to the q's in the final exam, but u will need it to understand it better and for tutes

Oh, I didn't know that, but I was using it as an example... I thought it would hence apply to BCom (Acct) students, as well, or whoever those accounting people are. *shrugs*
