I thought given most of the other big Boxing Day movies had their own threads this one should get one too.
Saw it tonight. Quite liked it, and a return to form for Wes Anderson after the disappointing Life Aquatic (seems to be a theme for 2007, with the same to be said for Fincher's Zodiac and Coen's No Country For Old Men). It kind of continues on the same trail he'd began setting with The Royal Tenenbaums and Life Aquatic, but I'd argue more successfully, and so it's Anderson's best film since Rushmore.
Much like what I said for Atonement (in that I preferred its first half, set entirely within the grounds of the house), I think this film's first half on the train was stronger than after they leave it, where it kind of seemed to suddenly attempt to find focus where previously the film was all about the whimsy.
Nevertheless, some very funny and touching moments, a top soundtrack (as you can expect from Anderson) and .great acting, especially from Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman. I'm not sure why this isn't getting more write-ups, and think it must in large part be because it's unfortunately come out in such an unusually strong time for movies, this one's been a bit lost in the shuffle. Which is a shame, it deserves to be seen.
