Hey guys.

Im currently doing Applied Finance & Economics as a double degree.

What benefits, in terms of job career, does Economics help me to achieve? I want to be able to branch out in the scheme of finance and money and how society operates with the market.

Thanks heaps.

Firstly, I'd say markets operate within society, not the other way around. Maybe you mean "...how buyers and sellers (which is often the majority of society) operate within the market."? :p

Anyway, with economics you can try and get a cadetship at the Reserve Bank if you're good enough. That's all to do with the money supply/interest rates and foreign exchange, et cetera, and it affects most of our society in one way or another.

Other than that, economics might help in some kind of treasury role within an investment bank. It would also allow you to work with government and trade unions in policy formation. Economics is very interesting, but the career paths are slightly limited.
