Where do you see your degrees taking you?

Cushy jobs in public service? High flying multi-national aka gold-collar worker (refer to article in smh about new class of international professional)?

Just out of interest.

Yeah, I've always considered journalism as well. Maybe I could be a columnist for a paper or something whilst being a diplomat or something :p Write for 'Foreign Affairs" journals :p

The idea of having my own opinion column really appeals to me, it would be in the herald... dreams lol.

Personally i'd like to get into DFAT and score diplomatic posting, several years down the track being a diplomat myself would be kinda cool but i suspect those jobs usually go to ex MPs and friends of the PM.

Because we are australia and our foriegn policy isnt really interesting (just on an importance scale compared to say US, UK, France - personally I do find it interesting I just suppose not BIG enough) I'd like to eventually head either into a multi-national or into international politics eg the UN.

Alternatively the idea of working in a West Wing (the TV show) kind of place looks really good however I doubt actuley exists.

Diplomat.

Wear a chemise EVERY DAY! Such is our status in society.

No more blue-collar polo shirts for us

Oh, and cherryblossom, I've always thought you were a chinese girl, not some poorly clothed guy who wears a necklace and in desparate need of a hair wash/cut.

I see an ANU law degree going into some politics job. Doesn't bother me really, as long as I have a large number of subordinates.:p

yes working for the UN is my ultimate ambition....but you need to know three languages, and plus they only employ 20 000 ppl worldwide, that's the same amount as florida disneyland.
leetom haven;t you ever heard of daniel johns and silverchair.

Three languages ouch, im not to good at languages especially though that arnt alpha numeraic, well Australian mission to UN would be a start...

What majors do you plan to achieve this?

I was thinking IR&P, policy studies (not sure about that though) and maybe spanish as a minor, though a psychology minor would be interesting.

um it's just a stupid dream really
well if I do arts law then I'd do polit science and int rel
in arts (int rel) you have to do a language or int communication thing...and I'll do french if I can stomach it, or else spanish which doesn't really appeal but has broader applications than say italian
man I love my glossy ANU course booklets :), though I haven;t had a very thorough look through them as I'm an 05er, lotsa time to contemplate after my assessments

You only have to do a language or int communication if you do a BA (IR) as a named specilisation, (which can't be combined with law). When you do a BA (IR) you do two majors one is IR and the other a language or international communication.

When I flipped through the very purty glossy booklets I noticed that the list of subjects in polit science and IR seemed very similar (like a 95% crossover) so I wondered what actually is the differance?

I'll sell my body to the un/amnesty int./red cross for at least a few years (ps. they contract out a hell of a lot more jobs). During this time i'll meet an older, fiesty red headed woman who will rule me with an iron fist. I'll groom some children to carry out my smashed dreams and we'll settle down in suburbia, to be forgotten in a sea of mediocrity.
