The Sir Frank Kitto Memorial Lecture will take place on Wednesday, 9 August, at 6.15pm in LT4. The speaker is the Commonwealth Ombudsman, Professor John McMillan, and his topic is ‘Rethinking the Separation of Powers’. This is the School’s premiere public event and the topic is of obvious interest to administrative law students. You are strongly encouraged to come along, if you live in Armidale. It should finish around 7.15pm.

I thought the Lecture was very interesting. The Ombudsman explored the notion of perhaps there being a 4th arm to a Seperation of powers. The 4th being like an oversight body. But this arm is not a power but a mix of rules, regulations etc like a construction of a birds nest, to use his words. Many interesting questions were asked by Lecturers at UNE like "who guards the guards" and "what effect does this arm have, if any" etc. A credit to UNE in getting the Ombudsman to come to Armidale.
