ok, i get the WHAT is if i have a text i can analyse.
but i dont get how HOW (the techniques of the author) is related to the WHAT of the text.

for eg.

WHAT - the environment is a substantial ffactor for the outcome of journeys
TECHNIQUE - this is shown by the simile, metaphor etc.

does it make sense at all? how can u just connect WHAT with a technique.

someone explain plz.

you basically have to explain what the effect of techniques is on the meaning of the text. for eg.
"The use of the extended metaphor, " " demonstrates the persona's feeling towards the <something or other>. This relates to the representation of the journey through ........"

or something similar, you basically say what the text is showing then you justify where you came up with that idea by supporting it with a textual reference and an analysis of its impact (mentioning technique)

hope that helps

well im guess ur asking how anayzing techniques answers the question.....

ok eg: the simile "as just as fair" indicates that both paths are equally as similar and this continues the notion that lifes choices are often random acts.......

the first half mentioned the technique and a quote and the second half reffered to how this technique relates to journeys by saying that during our jounrey we often makes decisons that arnt properly thought out.......so yeh....i dunno if that helps.......

The WHAT of a text, i'd assume is your focus journey. You explain the WHAT through the HOW and the VALUE of the text.
When asked HOW the text creates meaning you are only looking at one thing: the use of techniques.
List all the techniques that you can identify in the text. However, Identifying is one part of the HOW, you need to explain further how it relates to the focus journey. I'll give you an example for an inner journey:
"The use of first person narration "i wondered and wondered..." reflects the persona's thinking process. This concious stream of thoughts allows the responder to delve deep into the inner mind, leading to a discovery of the spiritual self through this inner journey"
Notice how:
+Theres the identifying of the technique (the how)
+The use of a quote as evidence of the technique
+The reason WHY this reflects an inner journey (the value as well)

I did up there :) I'll put in one of my paragraphs from my imaginative journeys essay. Dont put too much attention on the content, but rather the structure and the "explanation"...read it and you'll know what i mean (hopefully).. :)

Shakespeare’s, The Tempest, explores familiar concepts of the supernatural through sleep and dreams the what, which is the imaginative journey or what you are arguing for. Characters are placed in slumber by the use of music.
“We are such dreams are made of”
And “our little life is sounded with sleep”
the evidence, your quote
This music motif
the technique/the how, summoned by the magic of Ariel, enforces the power of illusion and imagination by allowing the audience to speculate and imagine Ariel’s magical capability the value of the technique

my teacher always told me to think while i'm writing an essay to look for these elements in each paragraph:
WHAT is being said
HOW is it being said
WHAT IS THE VALUE of it being said

Its hard to tell when to start a new paragraph or not. Especially in this section, where you have so much to write in so little time. In my layout, i did one text per paragraph, so that section i pasted for you is probably one third of a paragraph allocated to one text. Though i found that i didnt write all of it out. This was only a backbone essay which i could pull parts from and add if neccessary :)
