To collect the ester at the end of esterification in reflux, do u either
1. contents of flask is transferred to a separating funnel
2. Na2CO3 solution is gradually added to remove excess acid/neutralise
3. Layers are separated, the lower layer is discarded
4. crude ester can be distilled
OR
1. Wash with water (H2SO4 is hydrophylic) absorbs water
2. Add Na2CO3 to remove excess acid
3. Wash with water to remove salt formed
4. Distill to remove alkanoic acid and alkanol (they have high bp)
5. Ester and water left, add CaCl2 to absorb water
6. filter, ester is non polar, insoluble in water, just filter off
which one?
