Hmmm... Labor and Latham... The two terms are forever used interchangeably, yet I cannot help but think that Latham's recent statements (i.e., in the linked article) merely reinforce his long held position on the 'aspirational' classes. Pragmatic Labor thought, Latham taking a greater hand than before, elements of both or is he merely repeating what the party has said in the past? Not a question that I am asking anyone to answer, just one that I myself will be thinking about (3 month break, boredom, yay).

So, though it is still far too early for any proper level of debate, the Australian Labor Party appears to be in the process of shifting its policy direction in an attempt to retake the suburbs (even though the suburbs of today tend to differ from the suburbs of Labor's past). What do you all think?

The aspirationals lost him the election, you can see it in seats like Greenway and Paterson.

However, unlike what Latham seems to hope for, Labor has been swallowed up by the far left. Christ, I was in state parliament yesterday, and the Labor offices have posters of Che and Gerry Adams (of Sinn Fein fame) plastered all over their doors.

*shudders*

(One or two of the Liberal offices incidentally had GWB/Cheney stuff :))

The Labor Party of the next 10-15 years scares me, mostly because I know a lot of Young Labor candidates on a personal level, and they are not the nicest people around. In fact, most of them are utter pricks who don't deserve to be on the University SRC, much less the Federal Parlilament.

Unfortunately, the people who do well in politics are the ones who don't deserve to be there, but they will get preselected for Labor posts because they're the ones who are doing the most arselicking.

we seem to have extremes on each side. In times of well...uncertainty some will go extreme left, some will go extreme right.

Most of the pols academics at unsw do have anti bush suff on their doors (if anyones interested they should look at unsw's crim 2 problem exam

Facts (overly simplified)

George has a mild intellectual disability. He gets teased by his brother John. Barbara his mother charged at George with a knife. George shoots her...etc etc

The other problem question option was based on aussie idol :p)
AHAHA thats gold

yes I have noticed anti-Bush stuff aplenty on lecturer's doors

during the election campaign I also noticed anti-Howard stuff on the law noticeboards... but I systematically cleansed every level of the stuff

I didn't want this to happen... it's because silly ppl just look at their election thing, do what they're told and vote for a Liberal senator

I'm stung.
Al the labor kids I know are lovely...but then i really only know my branch and one or two around us....
But then the YL's in Sydney DO have a bad rep. And (apparently) a nasty habbit of invading our meetings and causing trouble *shakes fist*. I can't wait to go to a young labor meeting thogh! I'm so excited. And lame, so i'll just shut up before i sound any more pathetic.

Yes praise our glorious leader. Our best PM let! (yes dripping was sarcasm)...

For somereason i was up watching senate question time. I have never seem such an arrogant government and utter disrespect for the other side. Labor may have given the libs a hard time in government but they were never as rude and dismissive.

Senator Hill essentially was joking when he congratuated Labor's new senate leader.... (which was picked up by Senator Evans who made a point of Hills rather wimpish and childish congrats and welcome...which was along the lines of

'i was going to welcome the new leader of the labor party in the senate...but i wont....(stupid grin)...because his question is innapropriate and disrespectful!)
In your own words - Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.
