EIGHT people, including four school children, remain in hospital after being exposed to a deadly pesticide at an Adelaide playground yesterday.
Police today declared the playground a crime scene after the toxic substance was found.
A police physical evidence team found a tin of poison identified as Bayer Nemacur 400, a popular pesticide used to kill sucking insects and aphids in crops and gardens that can cause spasms and respiratory paralysis if consumed by humans.

A statement issued by Bayer CropScience said although the tin had been found near the playground it had not been confirmed it was one of their products found on the slide.

Forensic scientists yesterday took samples of the "black gooey" substance from the northern suburban adventure park to confirm the product involved.

Four adults and four children remained in hospital until Friday suffering nausea and skin irritation.

A group of 41 children aged eight and nine, and 9 adults, from Redeemer Lutheran School at Nuriootpa, north of Adelaide, were exposed to the poison after stopping at the public playground about 3pm as part of an excursion.

Another 18 children and seven adults from a local birthday party also had to be located and treated.

After the outbreak was made public a further four people admitted themselves to hospital for treatment.

Yesterday MFS crews worked for more than five hours to decontaminate the area including a toilet area where the students went to wash their hands shortly after coming into contact with the substance.
