transferring to commerce (1 Viewer)

do you think i can transfer to MQ b. commerce or b. economics without having done maths in year 12?

i've finished my first year at usyd and got a c average, but since i didn't do any maths in year 12 or in uni, do you think MQ will accept me trasnferring because i noticed that band 2 maths is a pre- req and they don't even consider you if you haven't got that.

so what are my chances?

They really require Mathematics?! I didn't know that. Isn't Mathematics just recommended?

I still think you have a good chance.

I think it's better to send a letter or an e-mail, and ask the MQ to make special considerations if need be.

uh well you gotta do economics and to do economics, maths band 2 is under the pre req. yeah i'll email them and find out!! thanks!!

and what kind of considerations, like ask to do a bridging course or something? cuz i've already done first year economics at usyd. think that will boost my chances?

If you've done Economics at USyd (I'd assume Micro and Macro), wouldn't they be equivalent to Economics at MQ for our first year subjects? In which case, you don't need to have Mathematics (Band 2) to do Economics.

But yeah, it's easiest and best to ask.

Why do u want to move from Usyd to MAQ??

becoz right now im in a dilemma between choosing MAQ or Usydney for commerce.... so if u could please reply asap

As a side note, the person I said transferred from Computing to Commerce (at the start of Semester II), sunk big time.

i'm not doing b. commerce at usyd and i didn't get my d average to to even be considered for a trasnfer within usyd. i'm considering macq uni cuz its my only alternative, unless i move out to canberra!! but other than that, i wouldn't trasnfer out of usyd so...

D average at MQ is tough (at MQ) because D and HDs are worth 4 points. So once you get a Cr, you'll never have your D average.

Anyway, at MQ, all you need is to like just Pass and you're almost allowed to do anything.

also, why is macq much more flexible wif transfer than for example unsw/syd?
cause its like u can do anything as long as u get into a course in macq and transfer to whatver u like..i wish unsw was like that

well, i think mq has a philosophy that if you can do the subjects, you can get the degree. so if you can do the subjects after you transfer, then its all good.

however, ill cite an example of someone who transferred from computing to commerce, after one semester, and sunk. it shows that it doesnt really matter if they let you transfer because if you can do the work its all good.

lol, if unsw or usyd were like that we'd have a street full of lawyers everywhere we turned

hey flyin so the guy that transferred big time in semester 2 sunk big time because??? he had to catch up on so much or because he's not smart enough to do commerce (please be honest here).... i want to know because thats what i plan on doing..... arts to commerce and i want to know if the workload will be too much if i choose to transfer?

There is nothing to catch up on. With each unit, you start from scratch. If they're prereqs, then you can't do the unit, unless you meet them.

He wasn't smart enough, and I suspect he didn't do enough work.

no the workload will not be too much.... your workload will be exactly the same as everyone else doing commerce, if you choose the right subjects for first semester
