Basically, the coils don't touch and are insulated from each other, meaning that no current can go straight from one coil to the other (making the transformer useless for changing voltages). However, the coils are mounted on a common core that allows the transfer of magnetic flux, which is how the current in induced in the secondary coil.

That is exactly what Transformers are for.

The rest of the info is basically true.

The generated magnetic flux of the first coil, causes a changing magnetic flux for the second. From this an induced EMF is formed in the second coil, that produces an induced current that opposes the first.

Sigh, please read again. If the coils are connected to each other so that current can flow through, then no voltage transformation can take place. That's what I was saying - they have to have separate coils or they won't do their job.
