hi so i know that there are 1 less subintervals than there is function values but what does '4 applications of the trapezoidal rule' mean - is it 4 function values or 4 subintervals?

Most likely it would refer to 4 sub-interval. To be honest the phrasing seems quite odd "4 application of the trapezoidal rule".

why multiply by 2?
