leon trotsy was a more logical and likely successor to Lenin than Stalin"
In the light of this statement, why was Trotsky unable to prevent the triumph of Stalin aas leader of the USSR??

we had to do that quesiton for our first mod assessment of russia.
um i looked at why Lenin prefered Trotksy - why he had qualms about him
- how stalin maniplauted power - used his position as general secretary to gain power

- Trotksy was discredited by Stalin - example in the 'Socialism in One Country' vs 'Permanant REovlution' debate - quote says something like "...he said Permanant revolution was compromising Lenins ideas. Stalin went to to sya that in many of his statements he had considered Socialism in one Country" (similar to that)

-Trotksy not having support within the party - his supporters were outside party apparatus

make sure you say why he was a liekly sucessor too
- stalin was unheard of really until Lenin fell ill
-Trotksy lead the Red army during Civil war and 1917 revolution
-Trotksy was Lenins right hand man

couple of points to get u started
