How are there calculated?

I can't imagine they can 'dectect' who is watching what. Yet they seem to be so sure about their figures....

I don't know how it is detected or how it is calculated, but I do know that you have to be tuned on that particular station for an X amount of time before thay are allowed to be caluclated. Avoids people who are sufing the channels.

i was thinking about... what if people were taping something while watching soemthing else...

for eg.. if 1 trillion people taped say... rove and say... watched apprentice... would that mean the ratings for rove would be 0?

ummmm that's a very unlikely event...firstly there are only 17 million people in australia

and much less than that amount watch rove or the apprentice

and even less than that amount watch rove AND apprentice

and even less than that amount tape rove and watch apprentice.
