are there different ways that u should approach different types of essays?
e.g. if an essay questions ask you:
"all journeys have positive outcomes". do you agree?
should u present both sides of the argument and come to a final conclusion, or should u present one side of the argument and provide only evidence that supports that particular argument?

is there any difference between an "argue" essay and a "discuss" essay?

4 the argue/discuss question - if a question asks you to discuss a statement, then you need to put foreward points both for and against the statement. if it asks you to argue a particular position, then you can mention points from the opposing view, but you should be concentrating on only one side.
for the question - "all journeys have positive outcomes" - i would definately put forward points both for and against before coming to a judgement (hence you show the ability to evaluate, which is considered the highest order of thinking). we did something veyr similiar in our trials actually, not quite that, but certainly along those lines. you would need a thesis defining what the 'positive outcome' actually was. for example, if your thesis is that a positive outcome is one where everyone ends up happy etc. then obviously not all texts will fit this. however, if your thesis is one that says that a positive outcome is merely a growth in personal understanding etc and not limited to physical outcomes, then many texts will be included in this (eg. my thesis was similiar to this, which allowed me to argue that the journey of the protagonist in The Scream was, on some levels, a positive one, although he descends into madness.)
