UAC application status changed - is it good? (1 Viewer)

I received one offer yesterday so I removed that preference and put another preference at the top.

This program (releases Jan Round 1) had required all applicants to submit a personal statement. Until now, it said - "Decision pending - additional selection criteria" in grey, now it says "You will be competing with other applicants for an offer".

Does this mean that they have simply received my statement in their system (regardless of whether it was good or bad), OR does this mean that my statement was deemed to be good and I have progressed to the next stage of selection?

The deadline for submission was 5 Dec 2024.

The "Decision pending – additional selection criteria" status means that the relevant institution has not yet decided whether you have met the additional selection criteria for the course that you applied for (the personal statement in this case). The "You will be competing with other applicants for an offer" status means that you have met the minimum admission requirements (i.e. ATAR/LSR + other course-specific requirements) and that your application will be considered alongside those from other students. This typically means that at this stage, you are essentially guaranteed/have a high chance of receiving an offer for that course. Of course, this can vary depending on the course and/or the university.

Thanks very much - just does “met” mean they’ve received the statement or does it mean they have viewed/marked the statement and given it a good score, good enough to be considered for admission?

It’s just that this course only has 75ish places and the median SR is around 99 and my SR is 92.80. Minimum SR 90.

No worries, UAC’s description of this status implies that the university has deemed that you are eligible for consideration (i.e. they have assessed your statement). In your particular case, it likely indicates that you have been added to an applicant pool and your chance of receiving an offer will depend on how well you compare to other applicants.

Yes, although it is unclear whether rejected applicants would be notified now or on the January Round 1 date. A potential problem is if the intention is to notify rejected applicants on the January Round 1 date, in which case there is no way to confirm your particular outcome since rejected applicants may also get the "You will be competing with other applicants for an offer" status.

That is also possible. You could contact the relevant university to see if they could perhaps clarify this specific aspect.
