I wanna get into a course but im going to be a few UAI points away from it. should i keep it as my first preference?or move it to my second (coz for my NOW 2nd preference i am over the UAi cut off )? will they give the 1st &2nd preferences equal or at least close weighting?

Preferences are given equal weighting, I think.
And you should keep it as your first, because even if you're given an offer for the second course (and accept it), you can still go back and accept another offer for the first if given one (ie. past the main rounds, as there is a chance that they may not have filled the quota).
I think it works in that if you accept an offer, then the preferences below it aren't considered, but the above ones still are.

Are u sure?

Does that mean if i'm offered a course in the early/prelim rounds for my 2nd pref, then none of my 3rd-9th prefs will be considered, even in the main round?
