i'm making estimated guesses (a little optimistic perhaps) at my aligned marks...but apparantly they aren't used for our uai. so why does sam use them?

Even though it is your raw marks that are scaled, and not your aligned marks, no statistics have been released regarding raw marks. This means that we can't use raw marks to determine scaled marks.

Each year, a report is produced by the Technical Committee on Scaling, and UAC publishes in that report data that relate aligned marks to scaled marks. This allows us to use aligned marks to determine scaled marks.

And that's why SAM uses aligned marks. :)
