hi
ok crap
um i am currently doin the following subjects:
-English Standard
-Ancient History
-Senior Science
-Hospitality
-Visual Arts

In english im going alrite, above average
In ancient im going average-ranked 10
in science im goin pretty well- i was No:1 for a while
in hospo i am ranked 2nd
in Art im ranked pretty crap but its gna improve from trials.

Anyway, I read that hospitality brings down ur UAI alot
I also read that visial arts and senior science have low scalings as well as ancient history....
Is this true?
I am not a top student, but was aiming for a UAI very minumum of 70 to get into a certain uni course

will my subject selections ruin my chance of getting my desired UAI??.. coz none of them are exceptionally hard.. well i rekon ancient is.. but yeh..

any help appreciated thankss!!

scaling will affect you, but not to the extent where you will get scaled down 10 marks from your expected mark. Scaling effects everyone, but those it most affects is the people coming up the top of the class and bottom of the class, in the way that if you are up the top of the class, you will probably get scaled up
if you're at the bottom, you will probably get scaled down
if you're average, on low scaling subjects (such as hospo) you will get scaled down, but it might only be slightly

by the sounds of things, to me if def looks like you will get over 70. you cant do anything about it now but try your hardest :)

The UAI is on the way out as an entry system anyway. Look at MQ they will now (officially) accept people who don't meet the UAI (I'm assuming provided there is space) based on the candidate's aptitude towards the course which is assessed by an entrance exam/letter/interview.

I know most unis do something similar with engineering courses.

just because you do low scaling subjects doesnt mean you cant do well in them. A UAI of 70 means youre just above the state average, so i guess from what youre telling is, youre a decent chance of getting the 70s. Just be consistent in all of your subjects and im sure youll do relatively well.

scaling will affect you. Ancient is scaled pretty high. Art is scaled high PROVIDING that you kick ass in that subject both theoretically and practically. In addition senior science is an average subject but remember Scaling wont affect you that much if you do extrodinarily well at all your subjects.
