After delighting audiences in London's West End and selling out their shows at the 2005 Melbourne Comedy Festival, the Umbilical Brothers are back with their new show, The Rehearsal. This unique show allows audience members to see the duo up close as they prepare for a show, learning about how they create their characters, sound effects and audio-acrobatics.

Writer/performers David Collins and Shane Dundas have been described as everything from living cartoons to idiots and their unusual blend of mime, slapstick, stand-up and performance art has won them admirers the world over. Meeting while both men were studying acting in Sydney in the late '80s, the duo felt confined by the constraints of the regular theatre world and believed that their mime classes "weren't loud enough." So going out on a limb they created the first Umbilical Brothers sketch and the rest is history.

The only way to make the Umbilicals rehearse was to get them to do a show about it. So here it is: a world premiere so new that it's a rehearsal. Or is it? Experience the madness of the Umbilical 'creative process' up close, in a show like no other.

I went to see this last year when they were first starting with it, and it was awesome. A total change from the mime material you would see in Speedmouse or if you went to see Thwack! last year. But having said that, I actually think it's a positive change in a new direction. The work they do with cameras and projectors is awesome.

Highly recommended. Go see it.
