Ok, we all know university is VERY expensive, and considering that I'm bored, I have decided to make some dot points which will help some of you guys save some of that hard earned money :)

* This one is kinda obvious, but if your driving a car, shop around for petrol and use those shopping dockets. Last year, during the expensive petrol prices, I found that petrol at home, in ryde was just over a $1 a litre, but when I got to Riverstone, it was 88c with the woolies dockets.

* If your travelling by public transport, you work out that buying single day tickets do not work out as cheap as weeklies. Work out which weeklies are cheaper - travelling between eastwood and richmond weekly turned out to be no more cheaper than a purple weekly which you can travel anywhere and on any form of public transport.

* Photocopying can be very expensive. Uni photocopying costs 11c a page. Some options include, borrowing the book and either scanning some of the pages or photocopy at office works. If the books can not be borrowed like closed reserve or journals, try and fit two pages onto every page ... you will save alot especially if you do a lot of photocopying.

* Printing costs the same a photocopying. If you a printing out pdf files from journals or printing off lectures, you can easily fit 4 pages onto one page and still be able to read it. Website, either save it to disk or email it or you can fit two pages onto one page. I try and do all my printing at home.

* Food is very expensive. A small box of wedges can cost about $2.80 plus more depending if you want sauce. Coke is about $2 and coffess are about $2.50 (i think). I try to bring packaged food from home when I'm not at uni for a long time. I also tend to bring a packet of skittles to lectures, keeps the sugar coming and keeps me awake. Lecturers don't mind you eating during lectures, as long as you don't make a mess.

* If your campus does not have a free shuttle bus, instead there is a public westbus (as richmond does), I avoid catching these. It cost $1.20 just to go up the uni driveway, which you can easily walk up in 15 mins. It might be very cold during winter, but a nice brisk walk will not only wake you up, but warm you up.

* Phone calls. This applies to mainly optus at the richmond campus. Optus views the richmond campus as NOT in the sydney region, so everytime you make a phone call, you will be charged more than you usually would. Vodafone does not do this and I am unsure about telstra.

If anyone else has any other money saving ideas, please feel free to post them :)

Oh, I forgot to add, they didn't tell us this at enrollment, but they might have at o week - but i didn't go.

Your id card is used kinda like an atm card for photocopying and printing, you add money to it in machines in the photocopying room at the library.

Tahts cool natstar, i think they are at all UWS campusses than.

ALso, if you can buy book second hand, do it. I bought my management book for 50 buck, retail 99.97 and its still in good condition coz it was a good and caring student, plus she was a girl too. Its on the notice boards. In this case, i actually emailed another person who asks one of their friends if they were selling since he sold his.Plus she offered me notes and if i needed, ask her for help. Yeah, UWS is cool.

Don't stress about the whole uni thing. Ok, the morning of your first day will be the worst day of uni ... but you will love uni and enjoy it. Just take each day as it comes. Theres no need to stress out if you organise yourself well. Just enjoy uni ... its so much fun :)

It took me a couple of weeks to adjust to the whole new environment. But it took like a whole semester to adapt to the marking that the lecturers do for your assignments and exams.

Secondhand texts

Some More Money Saving Tips:

New and Continuuing students:

Textbook lists are always on the coopwebsite(so you can find out the books u need), in the coop shop and also you can e-mail lecturers and ask.

UWS does not have a second hand bookshop but it doesn't mean you can't buy second hand texts from other uni's. you can also sell your textbooks to these places and also post your law texts on the LEC Forum below.

University of Sydney second hand text shop: http://www.src.usyd.edu.au/bookshop.html

UTS: http://2bb.uts.edu.au/

University of Sydney second hand texts forum for law: http://members.boardhost.com/lawext/

The LEC Forum is great- I have posted to sell my law books and people have brought them. And I have also brought some law texts too. Its just like a huge message board for texts and stuff.
Technically we are not supposed to post on it, but whose checking. There are heaps of posts from people at other unis etc.

All of the second hand book stores, allow other students from other uni's to buy books, prices are heaps cheaper and you can search for the books in their internet search option. Also, if u don't want to go into sydney/uts you can buy the books over the phone- I think.

Anyway, hope this helps!!!!!
