University subjects are confusing. (1 Viewer)

Ok my question is are some subjects offered at university taken by students doing different degrees? Because in the event that I don't make it to Medicine, I would ideally like to do a degree with subjects which don't have too high a candidature., so I can get a high distinction average on my academic transcript.
Also, when they mention what your Uni grades are for each subject on your academic records, is this in comparison to people who are doing the same degree, or the total candidature irrespective of degree?

not entirely true, a HD is a HD in the sense that it is a mark of over 85 (or 80 at some unis..).

Of course if you do an Arts course to try to transfer to Med you may not have completed the subjects that other people doing Med would have so you'll have to do them in order to finish your degree.. I think. Check with someone doing Med Sci as to why they're doing that and not Med

i don't understand what you mean by 'when they mention what your Uni grades are for each subject on your academic records..' ? AFAIK they just tell you your grades and that's that.

i wasnt concerned about what the subjects were...becasue as anti mentioned an HD is an HD and it really wont matter when they calcuate your WAM...

Hmm that doesnt make sense
Ideally u would want to do subjects with fairly large canditures so that u'd have more chance of getting HD's...ie there are more HD's to go around

ahh i see wot u mean..i meant 'too high a candidature' in the sense of academic quality, and not quantity...i mean not to diss out arts students, but it would be harder to get, say an hd for degrees such as aerospace engineering wouldnt it?
also ill give an example to clarify my confusing question- say in the first year we have a subject called Maths 101 which is theoretically shared between all faculties of engineering, commerce and science...then for the grade that I get, would this be in comparison to everybody who did the subject or only those doing the same degree as me?

Oh you'd be marked along with EVERYBODY else.. they don't discriminate on degree.

If you do physics in Aerospace Engineering and physics as an arts elective you get marked the same way providing it's the same physics course (there are a few exceptions.. like Discrete Maths vs Discrete Maths For Electrical Engineers)

"easy" depends on your natural ability.

i find lots of my comp sci subjects "easy" as long as i do the work for them.

you know HD's are VERY HARD to get in UNI's is not easy as it was in High School's

my brother who basically has no life, studied basically every day and night, but had night life during weekends hardly managed to get HD's, he mostly got D's and Credits,

BUT i fink it depends on the difficulty of the subject he did some engineering, and IT related course and currently works as business analyst at ibm

yeah i reckon...well at least to a certain extent...so what engineering did he do exactly, and at which uni...cos wouldnt that also make a difference to the ease with which you can get grades?

A difficult degree for one may be simple for another. Therefore, there is no such thing as a 'difficult' degree.
