It's not as hard as some people claim.

So you have to be:
a) Good at algebra OR
b) Set your work out neatly OR
c) Both??

Is it fairly straight-forward algebra, or do you need to be able to manipulate equations and things like that?? (i.e. use a few tricks etc.)

I think the setting out is quite important, as this would aid you in going through ll the algebra. If your working out is clear, then you can spot errors you make more easily. Lost some marks by making this mistake, you'll get frustrated if you can't find your error. Needless to say you should also be sufficiently adept in algebra to handle it. Basic questions shouldn't really involve tricks. The harder ones, like q6,7 or 8 may require you to spot something, like a property etc.

Conics questions appear murder throughout the whole topic, but become clear during the year.

Basically there are only a few commone questions:
- Tangent
- Locus of some point
- Prove a property of conics

Some Q7/8 questions might make quite tricky conics questions, but the basics is quite easy (but not at first).

So I should be confused when I first read about the topic??
And so Conics is one of those topics which requires practising lots of questions in order to understand it? ... and then it finally becomes easier... I guess if it doesn't become easier after a couple of weeks, then I'll know I don't belong in 4U :)
