I desperately need to know why PD James created Cordelia Gray, a female, as her detective??? Cordelia seems as if she has no substantial role in the text as a detective.

Urgently need an answer because my question will be based on context and stuff
thanks

cordelia gray shows a change in the detective convention. instead of the hard boiled, cynical, quick-witted male detective; pd james created cordelia to go against this. cordelia is a female, doubtful, doesnt show any obvious quick wit and is not cynical. she is the result of the changing times and what the audience want. they do not want a detective like marlowe who can solve anything, who is stylised to a point.
instead they want a detective who the audience can relate to; who is doubtful in her nature, who is more human. she also reflects the feminist view taken at the time.
