the BNW/BR FAQ by mednez is good...
have u seen that?
here is what is said about techniques in BNW and BR
from http://www.boredofstudies.org/community/showthread.php?t=66201

What are some film techniques in Blade Runner?

Some common ones include:
Repetition of Visual Themes
- For example the recurring view of the eye.
Lighting
- Shadowy, dark; Searchlights constantly around, "A search for the truth?"
Symbolism
- The classic English technique – its all throughout the text, look for it!
Film Noir
- Very Important - See Lighting - Ties in with the Sci-Fi Genre.
Irony
- Not a film technique, but important. Is it ironic that the emotionless people seek to kill off the replicants who wish to feel emotion and actually live?
Score
- Listen to the soundtrack. Synthesised? Artificial? HINT HINT HINT!

***The best students are the ones who can say how the use of techniques demonstrates the theme. An example:

“Consumerism ties in directly in Blade Runner with the destruction of nature. Consumed by greed and quest for profit, Earth’s natural resources have been exploited and used beyond repair, destroying the climate and natural environment. Repetition of the acid rain is shown throughout Blade Runner, pouring down on steamy polluted streets. The wealthy such as Tyrell, live in spacious quarters above the population, while most fight for a space on the street to move and live in.

Tyrell’s apartment, which by far dwarfs those of the other characters, and shows a power complex between his large spacious living quarters, and the tightly packed streets. Seen in relation to the size of the room, Tyrell is contrasted as a fairly small object in a large room. The symbol of the Tyrell corporation is also a gold pyramid – “profit is our goal here”.”

What are some techniques in Brave New World?

Some common ones include:
Repetition
- The conditioned responses
Satire and Parodies
- Satire of names, places (Eg. Lenina Crowne; Fleet St's Bureau of Propaganda
Symbolism
- The classic English technique – its all throughout the text, look for it!
Jargon
- Lots of cold, technical scientific jargon - artificial production of humans
Contrast
- Happiness of Lenina & Foster vs the unhappiness of Bernard
- Civilisation to the Reserve

hope that helped xrtzx...
thanks 2 MedNez :)
