why not consider Bsc at UNSW?

The BSc at all three is quite good. However, I strongly urge you to take into account which field you intend to major in. I won't say which is good where, because you should find which school is best for your own particular expectations.
To answer Pooja, I find the Faculty at UTS to be a lot more student-friendly than I've heard about the other two. Consider that UTS BSc students can "mirror" almost any of the specialised science degrees and graduate with that title in the end - I myself am majoring in Nanotechnology (and may be able to convince the Dean to let me double major in Med Sc). That's another thing - if you have a more creative course plan in mind (for your degree) the faculty isn't just going to throw the book at you. I've already shifted my subjects around majorly (shuffling three core subjects between their normal slots in the first and second years) and they're still willing to consider further variation. The admin staff help you all they can and the lecturers treat you like people. When my Great Aunt died earlier this year (just before mid-sems) all of my lecturers were willing to either give me exemptions or substitute examinations, they were all very understanding.
I have the feeling that I've typed stuff very similar to the above a few times throughout the year, and I must say my experience has only improved. UTS gets a lot of flack about being the most "corporate" university in Sydney, but to the people you actually interact with you are anything but another eight-digit student number.

Lexicographer: Yeah i heard about UTS ppl being really friendly too. not to name anyone from anywhere but some ppl ive talked to and that i have seen and known are not very nice...they seem to have this ego problem. i dont see why ppl put down UTS. its a cool uni! i know some ppl that go there and they r way friendly. yeah, about thinking of which uni to go to, i have majorly considered teh friendliness and outgoingness of the ppl b/c if not then ill be depressed for four yrs or so of my life...

The reason I'm not considering UTS anymore is because, since I want to do pure maths, and since it isn't a very commercial degree, UTS only offers applied maths mixed with a BIT of pure. But that's only for mathematics. If I were considering another subject again, I would also reconsider UTS.

And that's a valid reason to lean away from a university. I'm glad there are students who will weigh up what they want (seriously) from their study against what a university can offer without taking reputation into account. Slide Rule, you are worthy of commendation!Slide Rule said:

Heh, I recall back in 2002 when I got an offer to study BSc @ UNSW and the UAI entry was only 70.00.*Pooja* said:

Apply 4 Sydney Uni
it doesnt matter where you apply. both universities are considered one of the best in the state. if the uai is higher for sydney uni then put usyd down as your first preference. just tell me the UAI cut offs for the both universities.

i wanna do med sci, but might not get the 90uai for UTS
ill probably get into a science course at 1 of the 3 science courses and transfwer after a year- slide right in with the best of them (kind of)

USyd's reputation for undergraduates is nowhere near where it once was. They are infamous for being incapable to apply the principles they learned in uni to real-life situations. Of course, every institution will have its brilliant alumni - but chances are you'll be hiring "one of the crowd", and USyd's crowd, in comparison to UNSW and UTS, no longer cuts it.

i really really wanna study arts/commerce but the uai was like 95.45 for 2004, most of my preferences are business courses across different uni's, but i wanna do arts/commerce at sydney

oh wow!!! me too. i was initially crazy about science but i have now found that i like accounting and business rather...but im still trying to combine them with science!!!
