A criteria of distinction average for your Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Medical Science undergraduate degree is the prerequiste replacement over the GAMSAT exam for entry into MBBS.

The distinction average criterion is certainly not a selection replacement for the GAMSAT. I'm not entirely sure about the GPA required for admission into the medicine program, which is a selection criterion along with the GAMSAT. No doubt that could be found from the Usyd med website.

The statement could, however, refer to Combined Science Medicine, my course, in which GAMSAT is not part of the admissions process and in which we need to maintain an 80 YAM(yearly average mark) as the main criterion.

i think u still need a GPA 5.5 for Usyd..
but its not restricted to BSci or BMedSci..

it can be BNursing or anything! as long as u get the GAMSAT minimum..

It's ludicrously high. In half of the Australian universities (including mine) that's a High Distinction!

It's not that high, and certainly well within the grasp on anyone who qualifies for the combined Med program at USyd.

80 is rather achievable (Possibly biased statement), but I wouldn't mind if they can guarantee it on a HD average.

Hmm...if I worked it out right I should be OK on GPA for grad med.

After first semester, I've concluded that 80 YAM isn't too high, and achievable with work ethic and some intelligence. :)

Yep, that's why I'm doing a science degree majoring in maths and doing honours in maths.

Haha, well at least he has 3 yrs to fix up his 'communication skills' *cough*english*cough*
My communcation skills are quite good, thank you for your concern. And what was so bad about my English? I was ranked 40th internally and got a band 5 for it.

Performance in english advanced exams hardly determines whether one communicates effectively or not. Scoring well in adv eng is more dependent on whether a.) your point of view is endorsed by the marker of your exam and b.) whether you have been spoonfed the kinds of words that flag an "A" response in my opinion. I.e. you've simply got to feed the Board of Studies exactly what it desires. Extension english and 4 unit are better tests of one's ability to communicate ideas effectively.

Yeah, dodgy SHS English department. At least you don't have Selway now.
