you need a analogue video capture card, or it is impossible to do...

easiest way is prolly borrow a DVD recorder and record on to a blank DVD.

I was going to post something similar. But Iwas going to buy a video capture card from jaycar for about $100. but does that allow you to edit it on your computer or just play it without being able to edit it. because i need to put video segments in a powerpoint presentation

tv capture cards, like much tv cost about 100. What they do is allow you to watch tv on ur comp and copy video files to ur computer. I'm not sure what the format is but 1 hours worth will chew 4 gigs of space on your PC. It's not impossible and is easy to do just run the tape and record it to ur pc then get a convertor from download.com

a less expensive way:

Ask someone with a Digital Video Camera to help you out.

You can play VHS into a DVC, then transfer the video footage onto a PC.

I did this for my yr12 project. I'm hoping cameras haven't changed that much.

That way u save: having to buy a card, installation time, and the risk of damaging your computer.

but then your computer needs a firewire port.

that is an AWESOME idea

actually, just checked the Digital Video Camera I have access to and it seems I need a TV or video with "DV Output" which I then connect to my DVC via an optional I Link cable :s

I don't think my TV has DV Output though :(

you need a graphics card with vivo and a program such as PowerDirector...

red RCA
\
>--- 3.5 headphone jack (you need an adaptor) --> line in on soundcard
/
white RCA

yellow RCA/s-video ---------to input on VIVO cable.

set the right inputs in PowerDirector and hey presto
