video files give me annoying popup boxes (pic included) (1 Viewer)

my friend was shooting some movies from his digital camera and sent them to me. however when i open them with WMP/winamp they give me these annoying popups saying trial period expired, they also pop up after the movie has finished. these are .avi files, however i got other avi files, and it only does this with these home movies.

theres isnt a trial period for winamp and anyway i said, it does the same thing for windows media player.

A codec is a piece of software that is used to compress and decompress the video file so that it is made smaller. When software on your computer want to play the file (WMP, Winamp, etc), they all need to use that codec to play the file.

Some codecs are commercial software and you need to buy it (like DVD codecs). The Morgan codec was used to compress the video file, and the trial version of your copy of the codec has expired.

Best thing is to install the klite codec pack, with heaps of codecs in it. After installing you wont often find a format you can't play.

Sorry, but i have to disagree with this, mainly cos this pack causes way too many problems afterwards.

In response to the first post, http://www.morgan-multimedia.com/M-JPEG2000/ it seems its a jpeg tool, so it can be most likely from the camera of your friend. Uninstall it otherwise pay for it and it should disappear
