I was wondering do your professors allow using a voice recorder on classes and typing the notes with the laptop? English is not my native language and I think I would surely benefit listening to a recording of the lecture once more.

it depends on the lecturer. some are fine with it, others get a bit shitty. just ask politely at the beginning of the first lecture. most should say yes, i believe. and if they say no, don't do it, because they might catch you at it and kick you out or something.

A lot of subjects also record lectures and put the recordings online, so you may not need your own tape recorder for some of them.
