Oh the irony of calling in the army to "campaign against anti-social drunken and violent behaviour".

I know. Before I read the article I thought it was about soldiers being anti-social drunken and violent behaviour in Iraq and that they were being pulled back.

You can be sure that they are used to dealling with drunks. The problem I think may be in the methods, having seen military police rounding up RMC 'students' in canberra you realise that they are not restrained by as many rules and have no compulsion to be polite or gentle.

I think that there are certain issues of using the military as police in any situation. Soldiers are trained to fight the enemies of the state, when they are used as police the populace becomes the enemy of the state, to be treated as such. This is the reason that soldiers make such poor police.
